Can’t get to the Internet at Home on an School Laptop December 11, 2006

Posted by admin in : FAQ, Software , trackback

Symptom: You can check e-mail at home using the FirstClass client, but can’t get to the Internet using Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Fix:

  1. Start -> Programs -> ThinkVantage -> Access Connections
  2. Click on Manage
  3. Select your home Profile and Profile/Action and then Edit from the menubar
  4. Click on Advanced Settings tab
  5. Select the Settings button to the right of Override proxy configuration (check the box as well)
    Access Connections Override Proxy Configuration
  6. Check the automatically detect settings button and Do not use proxy.
    Proxy Settings
  7. Disconnect your connection and reconnect — you must also close and open IE and/or Firefox.

Step 6 should really be “do not use proxy”, assuming the collegiate connection profile sets the proxy explicitly.

Fixed. Thanks, Peter.
